The Pieces

  1. In Parlainth we come across a story from a cadaverman named Essenhale about the lost elven city of Andolyn, its king Redliff, and his partner Larkspur. Essenhale worked with Redliff, and was there when Redliff fought and killed a horror named the Betrayer of Thoughts. He was injured, and unable to make it back to Andolyn before it closed.
  2. We kill a horror with illusion powers in the outskirts of Bartertown.
  3. Very soon afterwards, we have a shared dreamstate with a large cat that identifies herself as Garlen. The dreamsender tasks us with rescuing a kaer that is being attacked. The kaer is Anarchon's Hope.
  4. The horror construct attacking Anarchon's Hope is called a plague, and affects the emotions of people around it. Depression, paranoia, etc.
  5. In Throal, our research discovers a story about the horror we killed. It is not the first time that horror had been killed.  The previous ones to kill it performed a ritual spell that brought it back. It used the body parts of those people to rebuild itself.
  6. We are given a piece of a puzzle "the Rock within the Rock, within the Rock" that can re-open Andolyn, and are set to find the rest of the pieces.
  7. In Parlainth we find the second piece of the puzzle "The Breath of Freedom" and discover that Redliff did not defeat the Corruptor of Thoughts, and that Essenhale was working for a Horror.
  8. A third piece, the Water that Bleeds was found by an adventuring group in Otusk 20 years ago. The Company of the Bright Blade was taken over by a horror, and turned into some cadaverman-like horror constructs. We followed their path and found a cursed sword, one of the Bright blades, and a history which pointed to the Corruptor of Thoughts.
  9. The fourth piece is the Blood of the Sun, which we find in the Dead Man's Gullet (Skavia).
  10. The fifth and final piece is the Void that Binds, a wooden dragon,  in the possession of the Blood Elves.
  11. The dreamsender tells us that the horror is stalking us, and that Anarchon has a ritual spell that will Banish the horror, all we have to do is take the pieces of the Andolyn puzzle to Anarchon's hope and they will be able to target the horror through them.
Geez, when you put all the pieces together it doesn't seem so complicated anymore.

Garlen visited us once before we killed the horror outside Bartertown. She visited three of us when we were in a Kaer, killing some Nethermancer that had a ton of cadavermen. That Garlen asked us to kill some dream leaching horror as well as free a trapped soul in the Kaer. This image of Garlen was comforting, visited in several locations throughout the dream, and gave us a restful sleep.

The other Garlen only really visits us around a campfire. On top of that, all of us have heard an unsettling cat crying in the background at least once during the visits.

When I was alone in Scavia after being chewed up and spit out, Garlen spoke to me saying "Patience." Upon hearing the voice, I immediately had flashbacks to the very first time that I met Garlen. There was something about the voice that was different from the Garlen that visits us at the campfire.

Essentially, what I think is that we have two horrors interested in us. One of the horrors wants our items, and the other horror wants our body parts. The spell in question will do one of two things: 1. Banish the Corrupter of Thoughts, or 2. Tear our bodies to pieces, bringing back the horror that we are not supposed to name. I'm thinking that it's the second scenario. Consider that 1. Anarchon is obviously horror touched and wants to perform the spell, 2. Garlen (horror?) wants us to bring the items to Anarchon so that he can cast the spell, and 3. this is Norman that we're talking about here...

If I'm not mistaken the Nethermancer with all the cadavermen was in Red Dirt. I don't recall that interaction with Garlen at all, but that would have been the Spirit Wind that we fought, right?
That would still put the first interaction with "campfire Garlen" after we killed the Horror in Bartertown. So I think you're mostly right, only one horror wants our items, the other one wants both, and the one that wants both has been moving us around the board. You'd think that CoT would be better at manipulating us, but it seems like campfire has been outmaneuvering him.

If we had brought all three of our items, Campfire could have in one move obtained more than CoT, and had the two most important items. The way to find it, and the way to open it.
